I've always been a minimalist when it comes to beauty routines. A quick splash of water (and a face wash) and a swipe of moisturizer, and I'm good to go. But recently, I was bombarded with questions about makeup products, courtesy of my well-meaning but overly enthusiastic friends. As someone who's never been a makeup person, I was as clueless as a newborn calf.
Determined to at least sound knowledgeable, I turned to my trusty AI assistant, ChatGPT. This was a mixed bag. On one hand, I learned a lot about the world of makeup. On the other hand, my brain was overwhelmed with information.
I discovered a plethora of products, each with its own specific purpose. My head was spinning! ( It still is)
Here are a few of the mind-boggling products I learned about:
- Foundation: A base that evens out your skin tone. (These are available in different skin tones, so choose wisely as per your skin tone or else...)
- Concealer: A magic wand that hides blemishes and dark circles.
- Powder: A setting agent that keeps your makeup in place. (I am being humble here, but the beauty world is full of different kinds of powders with different purposes.)
- Blush: A blush of color to add some life to your cheeks. Be careful with this one, unless you want to look like a tomato. (Now I know why in my school days my teacher used to apply light lipstick and then rub it to blend it on our cheeks for the annual function day.)
- Highlighter: A product that makes your skin glow. (Or sparkly. I felt like this was pixie dust.)
- Eyeshadow: A colorful palette to accentuate your eyes. (Yup, so one looks like a peacock.)
- Eyeliner: A fine line to define your eyes. (Nah! Excuse me, but making the eye look small is apparently some beauty standard.)
- Mascara: A product to make your lashes look longer and fuller. (This application tool looks like an abomination. One mistake, and say goodbye to your eyelashes until they grow back.)
- Lipstick: A colorful product to enhance your lips. (This thing alone had thousands of types!!!)
- Lip Gloss: A shiny, glossy product to add a touch of glamour to your lips. (Right! Peacock eyes aren't enough; we need to make the lips pop so they look like ripe cherries.)
And this is just the tip of the iceberg! There are countless other products, techniques, and trends in the world of makeup. It’s truly mind-boggling how women manage to keep up with it all.
As for me, I’m sticking to my simple routine, or maybe not. (I am itching to experiment with a few products, but only within the confines of my room, thank you very much. I’m not interested in roaming the world looking like a clown.)
But in all seriousness, I can’t help but admire the artistry and creativity that goes into makeup.
Dear, readers if you wish to check out how some of these products look, we have added amazon links of the same.
